MISSIONS
PROVERBS 31:20 She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy.

The call of the church is to look beyond our walls and listen for ways God invites us to share our faith with others. That faith sharing must include our actions as well as our words. Our faith journey calls us to move outside our walls as we witness to Christ in the world. One of the ways our church demonstrates our faith is by participating in the NIC Global Ministries Rainbow Covenant.
Rainbows represent God's promise. As we participate in the work of this covenant, we try to bring hope to the hearts and souls of those who are in need of God's promise. The requirements to become a Rainbow Covenant Congregation include paying our apportionment in full and funding at least one advance in each of the rainbow colors. Like we did in 2016, FUMC Des Plaines is headed towards fulfilling our Rainbow Covenant for 2017.
On the first Sunday of every month, through the gifts given in the communion offering, we put our faith into action as we offer to God our Rainbow Covenant Offerings. Those offerings are then given to those charities, missions and services we have chosen from the different color bands of the rainbow, as well as other organizations not included in the rainbow covenant. These gifts, in turn, are received by groups both locally and world wide. In addition to the communion offering, the Dine and Share program proceeds are used to "top off" any monthly communion offering so that a minimum of $200 is given. Additional mission projects are funded by the annual flea market, the silent auction and the concession stand shifts at the Allstate Arena.
Thanks to your support, Communion Offering and Mission giving has totaled $8,500 so far this year.
