Kids Summer Evenings Out with Dinner and HeroesHero Central is the evening program July 11 thru 14 at the First United Methodist Church in Des Plaines, open to all children from any church or community. Hero central includes supper and a packed evening of different kinds of things to do to appeal to children. Supper is just-right kid food, like hot dogs and/or macaroni or other pasta or salads served from 5:30 to 6pm.

Festive Tent Shopping for a Good CauseFirst United Methodist Church annual outdoor Flea Market will be at the corner of Prairie and Graceland Ave, Des Plaines Saturday June 3 from 9am to 3pm. Colorful tents on the church lawn create a festive atmosphere for shopping. Many individual entrepreneurs will be offering gently used items, new crafts and gifts. There is free entertainment, including the special music of Brazil's Nander Novaes. Blood Drive donors will get a free hot dog from the First United Methodist and a $5 Target card from Heartland.

First UMC Kids Buy a CowFor the last seven months, the children and youth of First United Methodist Church, Des Plaines, have been working industriously to buy a real cow and their sister congregation, Iglesia Nuevo Amanacer’s children have been helping too. To be able to visualize this unique fund-raiser, a wooden cow was built by John Hardy. It showed 36 assigned “cuts” or “parts” that could be “purchased” to total the $500 needed to buy a whole cow through Heifer International.
