Volunteer Opportunities at 1st UMC Des Plaines

Bessie's Table - Weekly Community Meal
Do you enjoy helping and enriching the lives of others? Bessie’s Table provides an excellent opportunity to do both! Volunteering is simple. We need volunteers to assist with:
- Food preparation
- Set-up
- Serving
- Cleanup
- Fundraising
Bessie’s Table serves dinner on Monday’s from 5:30pm until 6:30pm. We ask that our dining room volunteers arrive by 4:00pm to help set up. Kitchen volunteers start preparing the meal by 2:00pm. Clean up is completed by 7:00pm.
You can volunteer every Monday night or 1 Monday per month, we will greatly appreciate the time that you do give, and so will our guests!

Volunteers provide services to help Maine Township departments. The goal of the G.I.F.T.S. program is to spark volunteer interest in community agencies that help Township residents. Volunteer opportunities and social service agencies are highlighted in Mainely News, the Township's newsletter.

Hosted by Oakton Community College, but classes are also held in local schools, churches, synagogues and other locations.
Oakton offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adult non-native speakers of English who need to acquire listening, speaking, reading and writing skills necessary to function in their new American culture.
