Today's question:
"Do you also wish to go away?"
From John 6:
66 Because of this many of his disciples turned back and no longer went about with him. 67 So Jesus asked the twelve, ‘Do you also wish to go away?’

Reflection from Linda Trinite
In John, Chapter 6, we read how Jesus was very popular and large crowds followed him attracted by the miracles he was performing and the feeling that he might become their King. When I let my mind wander, I feel like it must have been almost a carnival type atmosphere. Everyone is happy and excited to follow this amazing man!
Reality settles in when Jesus speaks in Capernaum. He explains to the crowd that he is the Bread of Life. Anyone who believes in him will never be hungry or thirsty again. He tells them that if a person eats the bread, they will live forever with God. The crowd not understanding the symbolism of what Jesus is talking about starts complaining and thinking Jesus is crazy. They start leaving in large numbers. Jesus was left with only the twelve disciples. It is at this point that Jesus asks them, “Do you also wish to go away?”
Following Jesus can be a difficult and ever changing journey. When everything in your life is going well, it’s easy to be a follower. But when things start going south, it gets harder and harder to trust in him, and ask, “why me, Lord?” It is important to remember when you are facing these difficult times, that you remember that you are not facing life alone.
God is always with you, he is in you and he is for you. “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you” (John 14:18, 20)
