Today's question:
"Do you now believe?"
From John 16:
29 His disciples said, “Ah, now you are speaking plainly and not using figurative speech! 30 Now we know that you know all things and do not need anyone to question you; this is why we believe that you came from God.” 31 Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? 32 Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.

Reflection from Anne Hardy
Jesus asks this question to his disciples, Do you truly and really believe in me now, to make them look into their hearts for their answer. Jesus is aware that the time is soon coming when he would be arrested and taken away for his words and actions. He knew the disciples would be on their own and would be hard for them to keep their faith in Jesus strong.
For me, “Do you now believe?” Has been a lifelong road of believing; but now I am unpacking why I believe. I love just how the Bible teaches us to get to know Jesus, especially threw the book of John. My fear is, if I am put to the test in a difficult situation, like the disciple Peter was, will I be able to stand up and say with a clear voice, “I believe in Jesus Christ.” I hope I will.
My prayer:
Stand beside me Jesus, if I am afraid to own you.
Give me the strength to serve you honestly and true.
Help me to see through your eyes and not to take the wrong path because it is the easier way to go.
I know if I go your way Jesus, I will have eternal life. Amen.

You have given words to the feelings I'm sure many of us have. Thank you.

"Stand beside me Jesus, if I am afraid to own you." What a wonderful, mysterious statement of prayer! Thank you, Anne, for your lovely words.

Thanks Anne for sharing. You are right it is one thing to say we believe; and another thing to put that faith into practice. Some days we wavier but God love for us never waiver. God’s grace gives us second chance. Just ask Peter!
