Today's question:
"Whom do you seek?"
From John 18:
3 So Judas, having procured a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there with lanterns and torches and weapons. 4 Then Jesus, knowing all that would happen to him, came forward and said to them, “Whom do you seek?” 5 They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.”...

Reflection from Sue Lambert
The scripture on which we reflect today was taken from John 18:4 (NRSV) “Who shall you seek?” or from the GNB translation “Who are you looking for?”. Neither could be clearer in it's use in the story where Judas entered the garden where Jesus and his disciples had gathered and Jesus asked that question. Most of us have had reason at some time in our life to “seek”, though not necessarily for an individual, but for explanations while we struggled for clarity or solutions to a difficult situation only to find the answer has been standing in front of us all the time. And as in the scripture we ask the question more than once before we accept the answer we receive, most often because that was not the one we were hoping for. Like Judas we also enter armed, ready to defend our way or to avoid making the sacrifices that might be required to resolve the issue at hand. We are slow to listen and to show a willingness to embrace the help as offered even when our experiences have shown us time and time again that His hand will ever steady us. I'm sure my need for direction will never end and when I continue to find my way I will hold firm to the adage that while I might stumble He will either catch me when I fall or teach me how to fly.
