Today's question:
"Friends, haven’t you any fish?"
From John 21:
3 “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.
5 He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”
“No,” they answered.
6 He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Reflection from Sindy Domek
On the surface this seems an innocent question. However, when I began to unpack it and allow Jesus to speak to me through it, I discovered that it is indeed a very profound question and one I wrestle with regularly.
Here is a group of 7 men – most of them professional fishermen. They were very skilled at the entire process of fishing. I’m not a fan of fishing, but I am certain that someone yelling from the shore asking a bunch of professional fishermen if they had any fish after fishing all night long, would have been at least a little embarrassing for them.
They knew Jesus too, they had already encountered him twice since he was resurrected. He called them “Friends” so they should have recognized Him immediately, but they did not. They only recognized him after they did as Jesus asked, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.”
I see myself in this all too often. I only see or recognize Jesus in my life AFTER He answers my prayer in the way I desire, or in the good things that are happening. If something is not right or not going my way, it must be because He has abandoned me. He is ALWAYS with me even when I am not with Him. He loves unconditionally and yet I set conditions on my trust.
I pray that God will continue to transform me as written in 2 Corinthians 3:18;
“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
