Todays question:
"Do you not say, there are yet four months, then come the harvest"

From John 4:​
​31 Meanwhile the disciples besought him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.” 33 So the disciples said to one another, “Has any one brought him food?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see how the fields are already white for harvest. 36 He who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together.

​Growing up on a farm, harvest time was of prime importance to us.  We lived by harvesting the crops.  That was the source of most of our  food and income.  But, living on a farm you realize that "harvest" is not just one time thing.  You start early in the spring harvesting asparagus, then fiddle-head ferns, then strawberries etc etc until you get to late fall and you harvest the cotton.  So harvest is almost every day of the year.  And another thing is you never know exactly when your crop will ripen.  You have to be prepared to harvest when the crop is ready, sometimes will before you think it's time and sometimes weeks after. 
 
Tending God's harvest is the same.  You can't say I will go and touch a soul next Sunday since I can fit that into my schedule.  Or I will live "Christian" while at work but can act selfish and inhumanely on my off time.  You never know what will win a person over.  There are many people and things that have helped me on my journey, I just want to tell you about one.  I was in Disciple 1 with Judy Stettner, Jan Giest, and Russ Carlson.  Judy gave us a small piece of cloth to remind us  Jesus washed the disciples feet and therefore we were to also act in a humble compassionate way.  I still have that piece of cloth and actually carry it in my purse. To reinforce this Jan also talked about having dollar biils in her pocket for the homeless she met, not knowing if this was going to food or drugs. It could mean hitting their low if it was alcohol or drugs or it could buy a cup of coffee for someone cold. Both actions could lead to salvation.  They knew that humbly being ready to do even the smallest thing in the name of the Lord was contributing to increasing the harvest.  Like a farmer planting his crop and working hard to keep it going, we don't always know how what we do will turn out, but you have to be diligent in trying.  Never knowing what the results will be we still did it day after day.  God's harvest is every day, not in four months, 4 weeks or 4 hours, it's now. So be ready!
