Prayer flags flutter in the wind of First Church, Des Plaines, as we celebrate unity in our community.

THESE PRAYER FLAGS

CELEBRATE UNITY IN

OUR COMMUNITY

First Church Des Plaines is collecting prayers from the community.

This summer, we aim to gather people from all corners of our community who show care for their neighbors and are actively pursuing peace. As people of faith, we often express ourselves in prayer. Prayer is a sacred practice of many different religions and cultures.

Our goal is to create a setting for our community, with its many different backgrounds, to come together and pray.

Flags are a symbolic way for

people to offer prayers to the

Divine. Write your prayers on

fabric flags for display at

668 Graceland this summer, courtesy of First Church Des Plaines.

Every week, our congregation members will gather under the flags

to pray for God to listen to the prayers of our community.

Holiness: A Response To Love

Pastor Hope Chernich,

First Church of Des Plaines

Pastor Hope Chernich

In a world filled with so much that demands or tries to capture our attention, it takes work to sort out where and how we dedicate our time and energy.

When we orient our lives towards the Divine and love, we see that holiness is a natural result.

When we honor God we have a better perspective on who we are.  We begin to see the divine in ourselves and those around us.  This means that we treat others and ourselves differently.  Love moves us to holiness. Intentionality is dedication and devotion. When we intentionally love God and love others, we become holy.

Join us at First Church this October as we explore holiness and consecrate or dedicate our lives anew to God.

October 6: Holy Times  Why do we worship and take time to rest on Sundays?

October 13: Holy Places  The importance of sacred places in a modern world.
